Maison DUVIVIER Canapés, Leather craftsmen
Leather, the true signature of the brand
The Maison Duvivier Canapés, certified as a Company of Living Heritage, has combined its passion of leather with its craftsman’s know-how since 1840.
As the emblematic signature of the brand, Duvivier Canapés leathers are selected from amongst the most beautiful in the world.
The Maison Duvivier Canapés only works with the most renowned tanners who are affiliated with the “Filière Française du Cuir” (French Leather Industry) which is also actively involved in the protection of animal welfare.
Our brand selects its partners who share the same values: French manufacturers who hold the “Company of Living Heritage” label.
The hide decomposes into three superimposed layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissues. The epidermis, the outer part of the hide, is the zone where the bristles are anchored. Slightly thick, it consists essentially of keratin. The dermis is composed of collagen and elastin fibres. The mesh of the fibres is particularly dense and tight in its upper part, the grain. It is the part exclusively used for the leather of the pieces in the House Duvivier Canapés collections.
The primary components of the grain layer, collagen (resistance) and elastin (elasticity) determine the quality of the leather. These characteristics depend on the species of the animal, its age and the quality of its diet, which condition the regeneration of the fibres. With age, these substances disappear.
Soft and pleasant to the touch, Duvivier Canapés leather acts as a thermal regulator and become more magnificent with the patina of time.
Duvivier Canapés leather guarantees an unequalled,
exclusive and exceptional touch and comfort
Leather is a natural material; each hide is unique. The experience of the tanner and his mastery of traditional methods are the key to obtaining a beautiful, natural and authentic leather.
Only “full grain” leathers are selected for our collections. This selection and these high-quality finishes guarantee all the qualities of comfort and use of a natural material.
A tanning operation closely adhered to
Tanning is the process that transforms a hide into leather with exceptional properties.
The tanning process takes place over several weeks, during which the hides are immersed with tannins in large vats. Leathers obtained through mineral tanning are more flexible and therefore more pleasurable, more comfortable and more authentic.
No two hides are the same. The tanner must be able to adapt his work to the characteristics of the hide to achieve the desired finish.
Maison Duvivier Canapés uses the expertise of the French tanner Rémy Carriat, who is certified as a Company of Living Heritage, and its leather craftsman who have been producing exceptional leather for saddlery and leather goods, footwear and upholstery since 1927.
Unique leather finishing
The finishing operations depend on the quality of the hide and determine the aesthetic characteristics of leather: appearance, colour and feel.
A beautiful hide only requires colouring operations making it possible to work with full-grain drum-dyed, aniline or semi-aniline leathers, while preserving all the qualities of a natural material.
Environmentally conscious, Maison Duvivier Canapés only uses the most natural colouring techniques.
